Heathers poetry: featured in Shelf Heroes

0
Reading time: 1 minute

Founded by Ben Smith, Shelf Heroes is an intermittent printed fanzine created by film lovers. It celebrates great (and not so great) films one letter at a time.

Contributors simply pick a film beginning with the chosen issue’s letter and write “whatever they want”. From this, Ben has produced a publication as diverse and individual as the moving images that inspired it.

Obsessed with previous issues, I couldn’t wait to pitch an idea for issue H. I eventually decided to create something around Heathers – the 1988 high school horror comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

To match the darkly funny and wonderfully visceral style, I started to write limericks – humours, naughty, crude poetry, perfect for Heathers’ subject matter.

Here they are in all their glory, alongside incredible illustrations by Cat Finnie. You can buy issue H now at: http://shelfheroes.com/#/issue-h/.
